Steven H. Berg, the President of Sargent Consulting, Ltd., graduated with honors from Connecticut College in 1984. After short-lived careers in commercial lending and residential real estate sales, he became an appraiser in 1986. Steven worked for a large regional appraisal firm in their Providence office before becoming manager of their Portsmouth, NH office. There he stayed until 1989, when he and two colleagues formed Goodwin, Bragg, & Berg, Inc. where he managed the residential division. GB&B grew to four offices and a staff of 40 before Steven left to start his own “one-man” shop.
Steven is a member of both Massachusetts Board of Real Estate Appraisers and the Appraisal Institute. He is also a past chair of the NH Real Estate Appraiser Board. He was appointed to the Appraisal Standards Board (ASB) in December 2013. The ASB develops, interprets, and amends the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP).
Steven is also contracted by the Appraisal Institute to read sample work from candidates for membership to ensure compliance with USPAP and the methodology taught in Appraisal Institute courses.
Steven’s experience includes most property types, concentrating in the New Hampshire Seacoast area. He also has extensive experience providing litigation support in civil and zoning issues, pretrial support, and expert witness testimony. Most recently he has been focusing his efforts into providing appraisal review and litigation support services.
Steven is experienced in the education of appraisers, and has given many presentations on appraisal regulations, state laws and ethical issues. He lives in Portsmouth, NH, with his wife Cynthia and his dog, Joey.
